SIBS - Società Italiana di Biologia Sperimentale
Via Michele Miraglia, 20 - 90139 Palermo (C/O IEMEST) |
Event organized by SIBS - Società Italiana di Biologia Sperimentale.
Founded in 1925 in Pavia by what can be described as the elite of the Italian medicine and biology of the time, the SIBS – Italian Society of Experimental Biology – has always aimed to offer an integrated vision of knowledge in the Life Sciences, primarily through the organization of national conferences and local symposia, as well as by fostering interaction among research groups. In recent years, the core of SIBS’s mission has focused on supporting the new generations of researchers working in Italy. All activities are geared towards promoting young talent, following strict and transparent merit-based criteria, with the goal of advancing the careers of the most promising individuals in academic and industrial research, particularly in the biomedical field.
Session Content
The conference embodies the integrated vision of "One Health", exploring the crucial interconnections between human, animal, agricultural, and environmental health through three cutting-edge pillars.
Sustainable Biomedical Innovation: Discover how Organ-on-Chip platforms developed by BioRESystems offer ethical and predictive alternatives to animal testing. These micro-devices accurately simulate human and animal physiology, enabling studies on environmental contaminants, zoonotic pathogens, and food safety. A technological leap that accelerates drug development and merges biomedical research with agri-food sustainability.
Marine Ecosystem Protection: The session will address the impact of ocean acidification on mollusks, a vital protein source for 3 billion people. New studies on Lymnaea stagnalis reveal critical thresholds of calcium and bicarbonate for survival, demonstrating transgenerational effects that threaten biodiversity and food security. Essential data for predictive models and adaptation strategies.
Agroecological Revolution: Explore the role of agricultural biostimulants as a key tool for resilient soils and sustainable crops. Framed by EU Regulation 2019/1009, these natural enhancers optimize nutrient efficiency, mitigate climate stress, and enrich soil microbiomes, reducing chemical inputs. A concrete example of how soil health translates into more nutritious and safer food.
Three complementary perspectives that demonstrate how cutting-edge research, ecosystem protection, and agri-food innovation are essential to building a sustainable future. A necessary dialogue between science, policy, and industry to translate the principles of One Health into concrete actions for the benefit of the planet and future generations.
The event will be held in Italian
