Phytosanitary Emergencies and New Monitoring Needs: The Contribution of Laboratories to Crop Protection

Greenitaly, the International Exhibition of Horticulture and Landscape, is the annual trade fair organized by Fiere di Parma dedicated to high-quality Italian ornamental horticulture and the entire supply chain of this important sector of Italian agriculture: plant and flower production, technical means for cultivation, systems and technologies for the design and maintenance of urban and non-urban green areas, research, and innovation. Greenitaly targets nursery growers, garden centers, wholesalers, designers, agronomists, architects and landscape architects, architecture firms, general contractors, and, more broadly, all companies interested in investing in green infrastructure. The fair will be held in Parma from October 15 to 17, 2025.

This special synergistic initiative between the two trade fairs aims to explore the new frontiers of plant health monitoring and field quality control.

The workshop, organized by the Greenitaly Scientific Committee, in collaboration with the sector-specific news portal Lineaverde, will focus on analytical needs in agricultural and horticultural production — from fruit and vegetables to viticulture and herbaceous crops. 

Session content

The growing spread of new harmful organisms and the challenges related to plant health security increasingly require an accurate, timely, and scientifically grounded monitoring system. The conference will address the main emerging plant health issues and the crucial role of laboratories in supporting fieldwork by providing reliable data and technical support for swift and effective decision-making.

This event offers a space for dialogue and updates, open to professionals, regulatory bodies, universities, and agricultural sector operators. The goal is to strengthen prevention and protection strategies for crops across all sectors — from fruit and vegetable production to ornamental horticulture, from viticulture to arable farming.
