AFI – Associazione Farmaceutici Industria – is a Scientific Society with over 2,300 members and, thanks to its broad range of activities and high level of professionalism, can be considered as the most important pharmaceutical organization in Italy.

Founded in 1960 by Professor Alessandro Rigamonti, AFI brings together graduates in pharmacy, pharmaceutical chemistry and technology, biological sciences, and engineering who work in the pharmaceutical and para-pharmaceutical industries, in universities, scientific institutes, public bodies, or in companies supplying goods and services to the pharmaceutical sector.

One of AFI’s main goals is to promote technical and scientific initiatives and policies, both nationally and internationally, in collaboration with pharmaceutical professionals, health authorities, and sector-specific organizations.


Session overview

The presentation will discuss how impurities are regulated and managed in the pharmaceutical industry, describing their various types and the main analytical detection techniques. Finally, new technologies and future trends for the determination of impurities and contaminants will be illustrated.
