Event organized by Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is one of the world leading companies in serving science, with annual revenue over $40 billion. Their Mission is to enable customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. Their vibrational spectroscopy solutions--including multi-range Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), near-infrared (NIR), and Raman instruments— can be used for monitoring air quality, analyzing soil, and testing water quality, including identifying, characterizing, and quantifying microplastics from sources such as bottled water, ocean water, and industry waste streams. Whether you’re a seasoned spectroscopist or just starting, their solutions help you collect high-quality data and have confidence in your results.
Session Content
The issue of microplastics is increasingly recognized due to their environmental impact and their effects on organisms. There are guidelines on the types of analyses to be performed, including their physical and chemical characterization.
Thermo Fisher Scientific offers a unique, automated, and validated approach to their analysis. It is not necessary to create databases or perform complex mathematical pretreatments. For each filter on which microplastics from various matrices are retained, an optical image is captured, and for each particle, a spectrum is acquired in the mid-infrared, NIR, or through Raman spectroscopy.
At the end, a report is automatically generated that details the size, various other shape parameters, and unique identification of each particle through spectral searches in infrared, NIR, or Raman spectral libraries.
