This presentation will introduce a practical methodology for chemical risk assessment, a key step in identifying hazards and selecting the most appropriate collective protection equipment according to the substances handled and laboratory activities.

A special focus will be placed on filtering fume hoods and their role in reducing chemical exposure, as well as on the recent publication of the European Standard EN 17242. The main changes introduced by this standard will be reviewed, particularly regarding installation and periodic performance testing, documentation requirements, and evidence of containment and filtration efficiency.

This session will provide laboratory professionals with practical insights to better understand, assess, and manage chemical risks while meeting the latest regulatory and safety requirements.
